CHRISTINA

HOME

Christina Home is an Orphanage, which had been founded by Bishop Joseph Kundukulam in 1967, this institution is of the dioceses, He is also the founder of the congregation of the Sisters “Nirmala Dhasi”. These sisters are taking care of the children, later they start to take care of the mothers too. The reason why they take women is because once a lady came to Bishop and gave him, her son and gone, but after few days she had come back and asked to the Bishop: “will you please give me ten rupees?” and he asked her: “why do you want the money?” She said: “for buying poison to die, because I don't have any place to live" then the Bishop said to her: “you don't die, you can live here, this is your house!”

She was the first woman that lived in this house. Now there live around 60 women and 90 children. Around 35 children living in other house for studies and 2 girls are nursing them.

We visited this orphanage once in a week , each time when we visited them, we could find different persons there because the people adopted the children, and also comes more new ones every time, and some ladies go back to their own houses.

The nuns and some women taking care of the children in diferent rooms according to their ages:

In the first room live the babies from zero to 7 months, where they have been treated tenderly, after this age they will keep the children in the second room, where they live until they become two and half years old. After this age they will be taken to the 3rd room which is the most funniest place of the house, the children learning to eat, to walk, to speak even words in English by playing, singing and dancing. Until they become six years old they live here. After this time the sisters send them to other house for going to school. But when the holydays starts they will come back to Christina home and they have meeting with the mothers once again.
